Prince William, VA

Skilled Criminal Defense Attorneys Helping Protect the Rights of Clients Throughout Northwest Virginia

You’ve been arrested for a crime in Prince William County. Now what? You know what the government thinks you did, but how are you going to defend against the allegations? Even if police weren’t entirely truthful in their report, are you going to leave it to the prosecutors to uncover the truth? At lawyer Up Virginia, our Prince William County criminal defense lawyers have more than 50 years of experience upholding our clients’ rights, ensuring they do not slip through the cracks of the criminal justice system. We take a client-centered approach to every case we handle, starting with the first time we speak with you. Our lawyers will listen first, and only then work with you to develop a compelling defense to whatever charges you face.

What to Expect in Prince William County Criminal Case

If you face criminal charges in Prince William County, your case will be heard either at the Prince William County District Court or the Price Williams County Circuit Court. The district court hears all misdemeanor trials, as well as preliminary hearings in felony cases. If the court finds there is sufficient evidence during a preliminary hearing, it will transfer the case to the circuit court. So, regardless of whether you face misdemeanor or felony charges, your case will start off in the district court.

The Prince William County District Court and Circuit Court are in the same building, located at:

9311 Lee Avenue
Manassas, VA 20110-5586

What Is the First Court Date for in a Criminal Case?

Before your case goes to trial or even reach the preliminary hearing phase, you must first attend an arraignment. During your arraignment, the court will officially inform you of the charges against you and ask you how you plead. The court will also ask if you have hired an attorney. If you haven’t they may either give you more time to find a criminal defense lawyer or, if you qualify, appoint an attorney for you.

Why a Local Prince William Attorney Is Critical to the Outcome of Your Case

The laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia are the same all over the state. So, why does it matter if you work with a local attorney? The answer to this question lies in the fact that judges are the ones who interpret the laws. Judges are human, and have very different beliefs. Some judges may be more open to certain arguments, while others less so. The key to a successful defense is working with an attorney who knows the local court system, its judges, and its prosecutors. This way, your attorney can develop a defense that takes everything into account—and not just the charges you face and the prosecution’s evidence.

At Lawyer Up Virginia, we regularly represent clients in Prince William County, and have done so for decades. Our attorneys frequently represent clients in the Prince William County District Court and Circuit Court, and know how to position our clients’ cases for success from the get-go. Whether this means setting up your case for a motion to suppress physical evidence, working out a favorable plea agreement, or developing a trail strategy in front of a judge or jury—we’ve got you covered.

At Lawyer Up Virginia, we handle all types of criminal offenses. However, some of the most common cases we handle in Prince William County include:

  • Domestic violence offenses
  • Gun crimes and weapons offenses
